IRNSS 1D, the fourth navigation satellite, was ejected on March 28, 2015 by the PSLV-C27

 closer to setting up its own navigation system. With this success, India moved closer
towards joining a select group of nations with its own satellite navigation system.

the Indian scientists on the successful launch of the countrys fourth navigation

India And Qatar Ink Six Agreements To Boost Commercial Exchanges
India and Qatar on March 25, 2015 signed six agreements to increase bilateral commercial
 and economic exchanges. The deals have a special focus on the Make in India initiative.
 These six agreements were inked in New Delhi in presence of Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim
Bin Hamad Al-Thani and Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Mock. Emir of Qatar was on a two-day
official visit to India from March 25 to 26, 2015. The six agreements include Agreement on
 Transfer of Sentenced Persons under which Indian prisoners convicted in Qatar can be
 brought to India to serve the remaining part of their sentence. Similarly, Qatari citizens
 convicted in India can be sent to their
home country to serve their sentence. An MoU for Cooperation in the field of Information
and Communication Technology was signed which would provide enhanced business opportunities
 for Indian IT industry in Qatar. Qatar has embarked on an ambitious programme for overall
 development as part of their Qatar 2030 vision and has created a dedicated Ministry of
Information and Communication Technology for capacity-building in ICT. An MoU was signed
 between Ministry of Earth Sciences and Qatar Meteorological Department for Scientific and
Technical Cooperation according to which the scientific collaboration between India and
 Qatar will be beneficial to improve atmospheric & oceanic capacity in both the countries.
 Besides MoU between Diplomatic Institute of MOFA, Qatar and Foreign Service Institute,
MEA, MoU for cooperation in the field of Radio and Television and an agreement for Mutual
 Cooperation and Exchange of News were signed. ( Highlights )   India and Qatar signed

Defence Buys Worth: Rs. 8,341 Crore Cleared
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defence Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar
 cleared projects close to Rs 8,341 crore on March 28, 2015. The DAC gave its approval
for buying two Airbus A330 planes for Rs. 5,113 crore for the Indian Air Force, the radar
 for which will come from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The DRDO has been, the key player behind the IAFs smaller Airborne Early Warning and
Control System (AEWACS), which is based on the Embraer business jet from Brazil with AWACS
systems (an Israeli airborne early-warning-and-control (AEW&C) radar system developed by
 Israel Aerospace Industries and Elta Electronics Industries of Israel). European
 consortium Airbus Defence & Space had emerged as the sole bidder for a global tender for
 DRDOs AWACS India programme. The tender for six
airborne early-warning-and-control (AEW&C) system aircraft was issued in March 2014.
 Airbus Defence & Space has also been involved in jointly reviewing New Delhis
indigenously developed AEW&C system with Indias Centre for Airborne Systems, with the
 first Embraer EMB-145-based example likely to secure initial operational clearance later
 this year. Approval was also given for buying 22 Harpoon missiles for HDW submarines for
 Rs. 913 crore. ( Highlights )   The Defence Acquisition Council cleared projects close

18th Round of Talks Between India And China Held
18th Round of talks between the Special Representatives of India and China on the Boundary
 Question was held in New Delhi on March 24, 2015. India was represented by National
Security Adviser Mr. Ajit Doval and China was represented by Mr. Yang Jiechi, State
 Councillor of China. During the talks, India and China agreed to maintain peace along
their Himalayan border till an amicable solution to pending border disputes is found.
The two sides also discussed the issue of counterterrorism, maritime security, climate
 change, reform of the United Nations and civil nuclear energy cooperation. Also, the
two Special Representatives emphasised the importance of high-level exchanges for
strengthening bilateral ties. The two sides also agreed to build on the momentum provided
 by the Chinese President Mr. Xi Jinpings visit to India in September 2014 to further
expand bilateral relations in areas such as railways, stRart cities, vocational education,
 skill development, clean and renewable energy and manufacturing sector. Both sides also
 agreed that growing linkages between Indian States and Chinese Provinces through
sister-city and sister-province mechanism play an important role in deepening bilateral



ties. The framework of talks between the Special Representatives between India and China
on Boundary Questions was adopted in 2003.

The border dispute between India and China is related to disagreement over the
 4,056 kilometres Indo-China border which is also called Line of Actual Control (LoAC).
 China claims more than 90,000 sq km in the eastern sector of the Himalayas which is
disputed by India. Much of that forms the Indian State of Arunachal Pradesh, which China
calls South Tibet India claims that China occupies 38,000 square km of its territory on
the Aksai Chin plateau in the west. Also, under a China-Pakistan boundary agreement
signed
 in March 1963, Pakistan illegally ceded 5,180 sq. km of Indian territory in
Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to China, an area north of the Siachen glacier.

India-Nepal Friendship Bus Service Flagged. Off
The Kathmandu-Varanasi-Kathmandu bus service was on March 5, 2015 flagged off jointly by
India and Nepal. Nepal Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Mr. Bimalendra
Nidhi and Ambassador of India to Nepal Mt Ranjit Rae flagged off the bus service. The bus
 service was launched under the ambit of Motor

Vehicle Agreement signed between India and Nepal during the 18th SAARC Summit. This is the
second direct bus service between Nepal and India. Earlier in November 2014, during the
 18th SAARC Summit, Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and Nepals Prime Minister
Mr. Sushil Koirala had jointly launched the direct bus service between Kathmandu and the
New Delhi. The Varanasi to Kathmandu service is called the Bharat-Nepal Maim Bus Seva
(India-Nepal Friendship Bus Service). It seeks to promote religious tourism and
people-to-people contact between both the countries by connecting the two religious cities.
 This bus service will connect Kathmandus Pashupatinath Temple with Varanasis Kashi
 Vishwanath Temple as both shrines are considered important pilgrimage sites by Shiva
 worshippers all around the world. The Varanasi-to-Kathmandu AC bus service will be a
daily bus service which will reach Kathmandu via Azarngarh, Gorakhpur and Sonauli
(Maharajganj district), covering about 600 km distance in 12 hours. (Highlights )  
The Kathmandu-Varanasi-Kathmandu flagged off jointly by India and Nepal.  The bus
service was launched under the ambit of Motor Vehicle Agreement signed between India and
Nepal during the 18th SAARC Summit.  This bus service will connect Kathmandus
Pashupatinath Temple with Varanasis Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
PM Modi Inaugurates The Restored North-South Rail Link Of Sri Lanka
Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi on March 14, 2015 flagged off the first train from
Thalaimannar to Madhu Road in North Sri Lanka during his visit to the country. It marks
the completion and restoration of the prestigious project of Indian Railways to restore
the North-South Rail link of Sri Lanka after decades of civil war. The North-South Rail
link was completely destroyed by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (L1 1E) militants
 during the civil war in the 1980s. The rail project connects Sri Lankas Jaffna province
 to capital Colombo and a branch line connects Thalaimannar to the main rail line.
The project has been implemented by Indian Railway Construction Company Limited
(IRCON) International, a subsidiary of Indian Railways. The Indian Government had provided
line of credit to this project as part of Indias bid to establish better connectivity
between SAARC nations. This project will also play significant role in establishing
 connectivity between both nations as ferry service will be started soon from north-western
 Sri Lankan town of Thalaimannar (the closest point to India) and Rameshwaram.
Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi on March 14, 2015 flagged off the first train from
 Thalaimannar to Madhu Road in North Sri _Lanka during his visit to the country.
Prior to inaugurating this rail service, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi offered prayers
 at the sacred Bodhi tree in Anuradhapura shrine. This is first time that an Indian Prime
 Minister visited Anuradhapura. The sacred Bodhi tree at Anuradhapura shrine was planted
 as a sapling of the original Bodhi tree, under which Lord Gautam Buddha had achieved
enlighteiiment. It was planted 2000 years ago in Anuradhapura shrine which is considered
 as one of the most sacred places in Buddhism. ( Highlights )   PM flagged off the first
